The upcoming workshop will cover the following topics
MODULE ONE: How to Deal
Mindfulness, Meditation and Working Through Stressful Situations.
It is important to understand what stresses us out, and how to deal with it. We work through “your brain on stress” (ya, Neuroscience!) and understand why it can be so hard on us. We then introduce techniques to combat our anxiety, negativity and stress, including tools like mindfulness and breath work. The group will be led through a number of meditation practices, helping our tribe develop mind and body awareness. This module will include tools to help manage conflict, facilitate crucial conversations, and use empathy and listening to respond (vs react) to situations. Participants will be given practical tips to continue their practice and reflections at home and throughout their lives.
MODULE TWO: Your best version of YOU
Self Esteem, Reflection and Goal Setting.
Everyone’s “best” is going to change from moment-to-moment and year-to-year but while simply focusing on doing our best, participants will learn to avoid self-judgment, self-abuse, and regret. Meta skills, time management, and understanding your own strengths are critical skills for anyone to learn – This workshop will provide some practical strategies that will help our tribe members achieve their potential, and recognize their own learning styles.
MODULE THREE: Relationship Goals
Having Healthy Relationships, Sexuality and Dealing with Peer Pressure.
As youth become adults, relationships and sexual health become a big part of their lives and having a ton of questions is normal! It is incredibly important that to feel deserving of healthy relationships, not only with other people but also with yourself. We create a safe space to discuss how to make sense of it all and get grounded in core values. Advertising, movies, music videos, pornography, and the media would have you believe that you should measure your lovability by the numbers on the scale or in a bathroom mirror. In this session, we unpack gender stereotypes, critically assess popular culture messages, and discover what really makes us attractive.
Part of this workshop will involve using case studies to talk about “beauty” and its many forms. We will review beauty in advertising and discuss our perceptions vs our realities. We will also discuss simple strategies for dealing with peer pressure and help answer future questions like “How should I feel? How will I cope? How can I feel less alone? How long will it take to feel OK again?” We will help tribe members create boundaries that will support feeling confident and strong!
MODULE FOUR: Loving You
Yoga, Movement and Holistic Health.
Your body is your temple! Through yoga and movement, we want each and every tribe member to feel comfortable within their own body – learning to love themselves so they can love others. Each participant will learn a “Body Scan Practice,” learning to listen to how you feel. Our yoga practice will focus on heart opening poses helping us all feel more connected to one another. We will send participants home with a “home practice” that can be integrated into daily routines.
The group will discuss the importance of having a healthily relationship with food, and how exercise and movement can be used as a healthy outlook. We will also discuss “social movement” and the importance of being a part of your community!
